Southworth presents the world premier of 'Redshift', a play about an autistic girl who uses the Hubble Space Telescope to create the Hubble Deep Field. The staged reading features stunning imagery of galaxies, stars, telescopes, and the night sky projected on the planetarium dome throughout the performance.
Nine actors create the story of Elisse, a high-functioning autistic, beginning in high school where she is bullied due to her behaviors associated with Asperger's syndrome. She finds solace in a computer-generated simulacrum of the deceased astronomer Edwin Hubble. The story jumps to Elisse as PhD observing with the Hubble Space Telescope and, despite challenges, discovering the Hubble Deep Field and forming a romantic connection along the way.
