ABOUT ABOUT

You hear Irwin Gratz each weekday morning on Maine Public Radio's "Morning Edition."   On Friday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m. hear him in person in the Southworth Planetarium's Stardome theatre.    On this evening Irwin, along with planetarians from the planetarium's past and present, will conduct a tour of the night sky.  This program is a celebration of Irwin's 40th year with the Southworth Planetarium.  In September 1984, Irwin started his employment with the planetarium by conducting the Sunday matinees.     Ever since these early days, Irwin has been involved to some extent with Southworth.   He assisted in the installation of the facility's second star projector, the Jena ZKP-2, in 1989.   Between 1991-1993, he served with distinction as the planetarium's manager.  Although he resigned in order to become the permanent host of "Morning Edition," Irwin has remained on staff ever since. Irwin has served in an advisory capacity to those who've run the planetarium after his tenure ended.  He's also presented shows and delivered lectures about astronomy and the space program. One could confidently assert that the planetarium's continued success is due in fair measure to Irwin Gratz's continued contributions.    He is the quintessential science educator who has served the Southworth Planetarium longer than any other and, as a result, has become a living repository of its history.  We invite you to join us on Friday, December 13th at 7:00 p.m. to help celebrate Irwin's four decades with the Southworth Planetarium.

We ask that you reserve your seat, as space is limited.
